Empowering to enable – Local women centered talk show launches second season

March 9, 2020 – Kingston, Jamaica: As global celebrations of International Women’s Day (IWD) continue, local content producer and communications specialist Stacy-Ann Smith is using her craft to create a platform to empower women. The public relations practitioner is the executive producer of the hit TV talk show It’s A Woman’s World, which will premiere its second season on March 10.

“The show is more than entertainment. The vision is to give women a voice to talk about the issues that are real to them,” said Smith. “We hope that when women tune in for Season 2, they will not only be entertained but also know that they are not alone when it comes to some of the most important and often painful issues they face in their own lives.”

It’s no coincidence that Smith and her co-hosts Tyheissa Williams and Kerine Muir are back on air two days after IWD. Pointing to this year’s theme, ‘An Equal World is An Enabled World’, Smith asserted that the show positions women, black women in particular, as strong, educated and engaging. “Yes, it’s very important that we show our girls that black women are beautiful. But we also need to show our girls and boys that black women are also articulate, clever, creative and capable of elevated thought. We’ve seen too many negative representations of black women in media and hopefully It’s A Woman’s World can help to balance that.”

Smith noted that Season 2 will cover topics such as domestic violence, dealing with the loss of a child, health issues such as cervical cancer and financial independence. “We have subject matter experts from sponsors like NCB Capital Markets who share practical steps women can take to get to financial wellness and beyond,” she explained.

While the show is made by women for women, the TV talk show host noted that feedback from Season 1 confirmed that men have also been captivated by the content. “What surprised us was the amount of men who watched the show. It proves that the feasibility study was right! Men love the show as much as women,” said Smith, who is also the chief executive officer of DanRak Productions.

Season 2 promises to deliver the same kind of energy and entertainment value that grabbed audiences last time round. Viewers can expect the trio’s on-set chemistry, which was among the most talked about elements of the show. The inclusion of local comedian Dr. Michael Abrahams should also delight audiences once again.

“What’s changing? Well the show is now a very tight and impactful 30-minute package and we’re moving to a new home on Flow 100, Tuesday nights at 8:30. Our faithful online following can also watch new episodes on our Facebook Page – @itsawomansworldja, starting at 9:00pm.
